Topic: The Debt That Got Erased

An unpaid debt between two families can strain a relationship for years. But sometimes, a person chooses to cancel the debt completely — not because it was paid, but because the relationship mattered more than the money.

Jesus taught His followers to pray about forgiveness using money language — "debts" — because sin works similarly. It creates a real weight against us.

Someone who has truly received a huge, cancelled debt finds it hard to then refuse to forgive a much smaller one owed to them. That's the whole point of one of Jesus' stories (Matthew 18:21–35) — a man forgiven an enormous debt refused to forgive a tiny one, and it went badly for him.

Forgiveness isn't just between you and God. It's meant to change how you treat every wrong done against you.
