Morning Reflection
A boy who won first place in a school competition found himself, weeks later, still bringing it up in nearly every conversation, needing others to notice and remember his win. A friend finally told him gently, "You don't have to keep proving it. We already know."
The Word
Pride often shows up as a constant need to be noticed, praised, or proven right. It can hide inside real achievements, turning something good into something that feeds our ego instead of serving others.
Philippians 2:3 doesn't say achievements are wrong. It says don't do things out of "selfish ambition" — chasing accomplishments mainly to be seen, rather than to genuinely help or build something worthwhile.
A Simple Story Jesus Might Tell Today
A balloon filled with air looks impressively large, but it's mostly empty space, and one small prick deflates it instantly. Something filled with substance instead of air doesn't need to look big to be strong.
Do I do good things mainly to be noticed, or because they're genuinely worth doing?
Do one good thing today and tell absolutely no one about it.
Lord, check my heart today. Help me do good things for the right reasons, not to be noticed. Amen.
