Morning Reflection
A young soldier once admitted to a mentor that he still felt afraid before every difficult mission, despite years of experience. His mentor told him, "Courage was never about not feeling afraid. It's about moving forward anyway."
The Word
A lot of people think courage means the complete absence of fear. Actually, courage means acting rightly despite fear being present. Joshua, told repeatedly to "be strong and courageous," was a real person likely facing real fear — the instruction wouldn't have needed repeating otherwise.
You don't have to wait to feel fearless before doing the right, hard thing. You just need to take the next step, fear and all.
A Simple Story Jesus Might Tell Today
A young bird stood at the edge of its nest, clearly terrified of the long drop below. It didn't wait to stop feeling afraid before finally spreading its wings and jumping. The fear and the flight happened at the same time.
What is God asking me to do that requires courage, not the absence of fear?
Take one courageous step today toward something you've been avoiding out of fear.
Lord, give me courage today, not the absence of fear, but strength to move forward anyway. Amen.
