Morning Reflection
Two boys once pulled hard against each other in a tug-of-war that neither could win, both exhausted, neither willing to let go first. Someone finally pointed out: the moment either one released the rope, the whole struggle would end.
The Word
Holding onto an old hurt is a lot like that tug-of-war — exhausting, and it doesn't actually resolve anything. Letting go doesn't mean the other person "wins" or that what happened didn't matter. It means you stop being pulled by it.
Forgiveness isn't one dramatic moment for most people. It's often a decision you make again and again, especially when the memory resurfaces — releasing the rope, one more time.
A Simple Story Jesus Might Tell Today
A boy held tightly to a hot coal, determined to throw it at someone who'd wronged him — not realizing his own hand was the one being burned the whole time he held on.
What "rope" am I still pulling on that I need to release today?
Practice releasing one old hurt today — in prayer, and in how you treat the person involved.
Lord, help me let go of the rope I've been holding. I release this hurt to You today. Amen.
