Morning Reflection
A gatekeeper at a busy compound once explained why he checked everyone entering carefully, even people who seemed harmless. "What gets in eventually affects everything inside," he said. "That's why the gate matters so much."
The Word
Purity isn't mainly about a strict list of rules. It's about guarding what's allowed access to your heart — your thoughts, your attention, your desires — because everything you do eventually flows from what's inside there.
Proverbs 4:23 calls this the most important guarding of all — "above all else" — because a compromised heart affects every other area of life, even when it isn't obvious right away.
A Simple Story Jesus Might Tell Today
A well upstream that gets polluted eventually affects every village drawing water downstream from it, even ones far away that never touched the pollution directly.
What have I been letting into my heart that I wouldn't want flowing out into the rest of my life?
Identify one thing you need to "guard the gate" against today, and take one practical step to do it.
Lord, help me guard my heart today. Show me what I need to keep out. Amen.
