Morning Reflection
A young runner in a school competition kept glancing sideways at the runner beside him instead of watching his own path, and ended up stumbling badly, losing precious time. His coach told him afterward, "You weren't running your race. You were running his."
The Word
Comparison distracts you from the actual race God has marked out specifically for you — your own gifts, your own timeline, your own calling. Constantly measuring yourself against someone else's path often causes you to stumble in your own.
Hebrews 12:1 says "the race marked out for us" — meaning it's personal, not identical to anyone else's. Your race was never meant to look like theirs.
A Simple Story Jesus Might Tell Today
A fish, watching a bird soar gracefully through the sky, spent its whole life feeling inadequate for not being able to fly — never realizing it was already perfectly designed to master the entire ocean instead.
Whose race have I been watching instead of running my own?
Identify one area where you've been comparing yourself to someone else, and refocus on your own path today.
Lord, help me run my own race today, not someone else's. Keep my eyes on the path You've marked for me. Amen.
