Morning Reflection
A university graduate, freshly qualified and proud of his new degree, once refused to help clean up after a family event, assuming such simple tasks were now "beneath" someone with his education. An older relative pulled him aside and said gently, "No task is beneath someone who truly understands who Christ is."
The Word
A lot of people quietly rank tasks and people by importance — some jobs feel worthy of their time, others feel beneath them. Galatians 5:13 challenges that completely: serve one another, humbly, in love — no exceptions listed for tasks that feel too small.
Living for Christ means letting go of the idea that some service is beneath you. If Jesus, the Son of God, knelt to wash feet, no task is genuinely too small for us.
A Simple Story Jesus Might Tell Today
A skilled musician once refused to help carry chairs before a concert, assuming it was work for someone less talented. A wise stagehand told him, "The chairs matter just as much as the music. No one enjoys a concert standing up."
What tasks have I quietly considered "beneath" me?
Do one task today that you'd normally consider beneath you, with a genuinely humble attitude.
Lord, remove any sense that some service is beneath me. Teach me to serve humbly today. Amen.
