Morning Reflection
A prefect at a school once used his title to demand respect from classmates, only to find they resented and avoided him. A different prefect, who never emphasized his title but consistently treated others well, ended up with people naturally following his lead — without him ever demanding it.
The Word
Real leadership isn't about controlling people because of a title. It's about earning trust through how you treat people — patiently, respectfully, consistently.
1 Peter 5:3 warns specifically against "lording it over" people — using position to control rather than serve. True influence is earned through example, not demanded through position.
A Simple Story Jesus Might Tell Today
A king who ruled through fear was obeyed only while watched closely, and quietly disobeyed the moment his back was turned. A king who ruled through genuine care was followed loyally, even when he wasn't present at all.
Am I trying to lead through position and control, or through genuine, earned trust?
Lead through service today in one relationship, rather than through position or control.
Lord, teach me to lead through example and trust, not control. Amen.
